My Spanish textbook translates both qué and cuál as 'what' in English.
How do you know which word to use when you want to say 'what'?

"Cual"= which
"que" could also mean, "that", when it does not have an accent.
spanish is complicated, specially when you have complicated books that really dont help,
like i would not use: cual es tu nombre? instead i would use
Como te llamas? cual es tu nombre is alot more proper, but now and days people dont really use proper spanish, so if you dont want to get confused just stick to como _ and then QUE would become more simple..
