I was having this discussion with a friend of mine who says they take out approx 800.00 each check. That seems like way too much to me, (they usually take about 200-220 from mine). But 800.00?
she's a elementary school teacher

There's no limit. Tax withholding is a percentage of income, so the higher your income the more tax will be withheld.
Friend might be making a lot more money are bragging and could even be lying to you about the amount of taxes that they do withhold out of the pay check for each pay period next time ask to see the pay check stub so that you can make sure that you do get the CORRECT numbers at that time in your life OK.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 07/04/2013
$800? she is probably talking about being paid once a month, her total salary for the month and yes, it probably is possible, depending on her income that as much as $800 could be withheld
7.65% of her gross will be for FICA unless she is in a school system that is not part of the SS system, but she will have a similar type withholding to replace the SS
the income tax will depend on how she filed her W-4 with her employer and again based on her gross, could very well be a big part of the $800
but there is no upper limit, it all depends on gross and status
Depends upon your income, how often you are paid, and what you put on your W-4. If his income is high enough, $800 could be entirely reasonable. Heck, it could even be too low.

There is no such thing as a maximum obviously. I have about $1000 taken out of mine. Poor people have less taken out than people with money.
