I need to get a good antivirus software that won’t slow my computer down. I have read lots of reviews and everyone says that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 is very good, but that is slows your PC down considerable. What are your suggestions??
Update:I have tried the free Avast and ended up infected within 3 weeks..Had to do a clean installation of windows..It's no good!!

Kaspersky is terrible, i've hated it. even when i got a years free subscription from my ISP i never used it.
i've always used Avast free and it's not noticeably slowed down my computer.

No antivirus software can catch everything, they can sometimes miss some malware.
However, I got a solution for this
Comodo Internet Security is the best free internet security suites, it includes antivirus, Host Intrusion Prevention, and a two way Firewall, it also includes a DNS which will filter out malware websites
Download it from here
http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-...
Comodo Internet Security Host Intrusion Prevention (Defense +) only allow whitelisted (trusted) files to run, any files that are not whitelisted is isolated in a sandbox so that the files can do no harm to the computer, then it is being submitted to Comodo for analysis, if the isolated files are found to be safe, it will no longer be run in the sandbox, and listed into the global safe list which will be downloaded by all users who use this software in the next round of updates, if the isolated files are found to be harmful to the computer, then it will be added into Comodo's list of malware signatures and deleted in the next round of updates
No malware will stand a chance with Comodo Internet Security, even if a malware does get through it, the chances are very small, probably less than 1%.
And Comodo Internet Security is 100% free
The plus or the pro version will give you additional services, but you will not need them in most cases.
Microsoft’s Security Essentials, which has been a favorite anti-malware application for a while and it’s free, unobtrusive, and it doesn’t slow your PC down, but now it’s even better with the new 2.0 release, which adds network filtering, heuristic protection, and more.
Just to be clear and direct with you: we absolutely recommend Microsoft Security Essentials as your anti-malware / anti-virus utility over any other option—and how can you argue? It’s totally free!
New Features in 2.0
Here’s all of the new features in the latest release, which make it even more of a must-download:
* Network Traffic Inspection integrates into the network system and monitors the traffic at a low level without slowing down your PC, so it can actually detect threats before they get to your PC.
* Internet Explorer Integration blocks malicious scripts before IE even starts running them—clearly a big security advantage.
* Heuristic Scanning Engine finds malware that hasn’t been previously detected by scanning for certain types of attacks. This provides even more protection than just through virus definitions.
These new features make MSE on par with other anti-malware applications, especially the heuristic scanning, which has been the only complaint that anybody could make against MSE in the past—but now it has it.
Disabling the New Features (Though You Shouldn’t)
If you head into Settings –> Real-time protection, you can remove “Enable behavior monitoring” to disable the heuristic scanning, or uncheck “Enable Network Inspection System” to remove the network traffic filtering.
Limiting CPU Usage <-Key Feature for Speed Control
We can’t remember if this is a new feature or not, but you can head into Settings –> Scheduled Scan to reduce the CPU usage during the weekly scan—normally the weekly scan only starts when you’re not using the PC, but if you sit back down on the PC while the scheduled scan is going, performance will be less impacted with lower CPU usage.
Again, you should download this new version. It’s excellent. Note: you should make sure you only have a single anti-virus utility installed at a time.

First of all, you need to know that anti-virus and anti-malware are two different things.
Generally, anti-virus programs will not remove malware and visa verse. With that being said, it is not enough to merely have an anti-virus software on your computer, you need an anti-malware too.
My recommendation is Avast for the anti-virus and Malware Bytes to handle the Malware.
Avast will run in the background and not slow your computer down. It runs continually and notifies you of any potential threats.
Malware is the thing to run if you think you might have a virus or infection, it will not run on it's own.
Additionally, sometimes a virus or bug can be so nasty it stops your virus and malware checker from working, the solution to this is simple: rkill
Rkill is a utility you download and save to your desktop. You simply run it and it terminates any known malware processes, allowing you to freely run your check.
