What will happen if I didn’t stay on topic in class?
If I was in a classroom in college and if everyone was talking about an essay they read and if I raised my hand and started talking about what my friends and I did, would I get in trouble for this or what will happen if I didnt stay on topic? Does that happen and is that weird to do?

If you do that you will henceforth be known as "that guy who always has to be the center of attention" and all the cool kids will shun you. Only the weenies will pay attention to you because they have no friends.

I'm a eighth grader, and during class we do go off topic sometimes. But i would imagine by high school it would stop.
Trust me, you don't wanna be 'that guy". There's one in every class, and everybody else is really annoyed. It's kinda like the guy who makes staff meetings run long by bringing up stuff that doesn't matter.
