What type fastener should I use to Join 2 2x8 12 ft deck joist? ?
I am adding a new 2x8 12 ft board to existing 2x8 12 ft joist. At one end there is 3 2x8 joined together. I used 3 inch deck screws.

not clear. are you running the new 2x8 next to the existing one to reinforce it? or trying to add it onto the end to lengthen it? if you're reinforcing an existing joist, I'd have wanted to use construction adhesive in between them, with your deck screws to apply pressure. i'd also add a few [3?] bolts with fender washers on both sides and nuts well cranked tight near both ends. Lengthening isn't, in general, safe and should be examined by a structural engineer before being attempted. -- grampa
