There was no concept of "teenagers" anywhere in the Bible. There was no word to mark that time span in the lives of children. The Hebrew word 'alma' meant both a young woman and a virgin. There was no idea of age attached to that. It was simply assumed that until a female was married, she would be a virgin (unless raped of course.) And in the account of Elijah and the bears that scattered a mob, the word just meant children, though they could have been teenagers, or even into their early 20s. You will find the situation today totally different, as children are trained by the media to think that they should get special treatment and be spoken to as if they were adults even before they reach 13 years. Governments think that even younger children should be taught about sex. People in Bible times would have been horrified. They cared for their children from being babies up until they left home, and it was expected that when a young man married, he would be old enough to take on full responsibility for the woman, and any resulting children, by leaving his parent's home and setting up one of his own.

Personally, I have no problem calling a child a child if they are acting and speaking in a childish manner, and if they get ratty about that, it only goes to prove how immature (childish) they are.

Someone who is thirTEEN is not a preteen.
