I found it in my freezer and I’m not sure of the best way to cook it. Is cooking a venison steak different than cooking a beef steak?
I’m not a hunter myself, and I’ve only cooked ground venison before. I don’t want to screw it up. What the equivalent cut on a cow, of “deer leg steak?”
Thanks

;it is a red meat so you treat it the same way you would beef. If the deer was cleaned right it will not taste gamy which is the only thing that can make venison taste not as good s another red meat but if it was done right venison can taste great.
Is it labeled leg steak? So you really don't know what cut of meat you have, because some amature cut your meat. Slice it into strips or thinnish steaks dredge in seasoned flour and pan fry in oil.
Venison is a very lean meat. Because there is not much fat, it will not be tender. You need to "wet cook" it .. a pot roast or stew.
And it is best if you marinate it to remove the "gamey" taste and help tenderize it.
So cooking deer is just like cooking beef with the exception that deer is a much leaner meat. Like beef you can boil it, bake it, or fry it.
Cook it low and slow with onions, garlic, seasonings, until tender.
Venison is much leaner so you might want to use a little cooking oil and/or marinate it a bit. Otherwise it's not much different.
