Micheal Owen is an excellent striker, no doubt about it. Lost a little bit of bite over recent years but he is still Englands most potent finisher. I do think though that he needs to be 100% match fit to be an effective option at the highest level. He clearly isn't at his sharpest at the minute.
Rooney is a great talent. But this however, i believe, is just potential and raw talent rather than the world class player many would make out. Rooney needs to be looked after carefully. His hunger for the game is magnificent but his temper needs to be controlled and used to improve his attitude rather than hinder it.
After watching Crouch tonight i think he is the worst center forward England have taken to a World Cup in my short lifetime. He isn't good enough for Liverpool let alone England. He is a disaster.
I think the system that suits Englands midfielders the best (4.5.1), does not suit their forwards. They do not have anyone who can play the lone striker role. It is a dilemma that a top class manager could sort out!
if u had watched today's match against tridad and tobago never mind the spelling, i think the combination of playing owen and crouch is not going well, crouch & rooney was satisfying if not better. why don't they bring lampard upfront more often , man he is very lethal upfront, today he had many chances too. i think except rooney their strikers lack the deft touch thats why even the coach "sevn" is also worried about rooney more then winning the world cup. if they can discard crouch who was "ouch" to the team, play lampard upfront with rooney, bring owen hargreaves, atleast he is better the front too. WAT SAY PEOPLE.
