AP stands for Advanced Placement. it's a college level course that will get you college credit only if you pass the AP exam that is taken in May. they are more rigorous and is a fast paced course so you have to be prepared to do a lot of studying at home and doing a lot of work to get you ready for that AP exam. it depends on the school on what grade you can take them in. in my old school, 9th grade cannot take AP. in my new school, you choose whatever you think you can handle! It depends on what AP class you're taking to know how hard it is because some are very challenging and some are not too challenging. You should take them if you are someone who likes to take on a challenge or if you want college credit witout having to take the course in college and pay for it!
Different schools have different requirements, like at my high school only juniors and seniors can take them. Basically the AP program is college classes taken in HS. It is a rigorous, national curriculum that does not vary by state or institution, and they tend to be very hard and very in depth. At the end of each course is the AP exam, which is given across the country and graded on a scale from 1 to 5. Achieving a 4 or a 5 on the test generally allows you to bypass freshman courses in college for that subject, but this part does vary based on institutions... It's a college-by-college basis.
I suggest taking them, nut only take them for subjects you are genuinely interested in. It's a lot of work in very little time, and you should at least be able to enjoy the time you spend studying.
