If you build your own, you'll likely get exactly what you want. I'd say that something like an i5 2500k, an USB 3 and SATA 3 motherboard, a 700W power supply, a SATA II 1TB WD Black, and a GeForce GTX 560Ti shouldn't set you back more than about a thousand quid - and that's including the operating system, although the exact specs would depend on whether you need a monitor and speakers or headset or if you already have those.
EDIT:
Well, if you don't want to build it yourself, then that's another thing entirely. This is a golden opportunity for you to learn how to do so, though.
This is a 23" LG monitor with 2ms response time for 150 quid: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/monitors/...
This is a water-cooled 500 GB i7 2600k 4GB RAM 1600MHz GeForce GTX 560Ti W7HP64-bit for 900 quid: http://www.easypc-uk.com/gamers-systems/157-eco-ga...
for gaming PCs dont buy big brand as you end up with qa rubbish graphics card and PSU
you are much better with something like this:
now upgrade exactly what i say:
- tick the box that says free game (just because its free :P)
- change the motherboard to the top one in the Z68 category (asus one)
- increase graphics card to a amd 6950 hd
- increase the PSU to the thermaltake 875 watt one
- change the hard drivew to the first sata 2 500 gig one and then click the first drop down option to get 1TB in raid 0 (doubles performance and hard drive space)
then click the next button, grab a display, keyboard, speakers etc if you like (if this is your first build and your wondering why i didnt add a sound card its because all new motherboard nowadays have good onboard 7.1 audio cards. aswell as network cards onboard aaswell etc.)
then click continue and add windows 7 home premium 64 bit
then on additional software i recommend adding McAfee anti virus as its cheap.
all this will performa at around 4 times the power of the dell computer and comes below £1000
Go on dinopc and try building your own or choose from the vast range of pre-built computers. I bought mine from there in which I chose all the components myself. It's a great website and all the components are cheap and they have a huge range as well. If you don't know how to build your own then all you need is a better graphics card for that computer since the graphics card is bad atm
I check out sites like www.Novatech.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk And what ever you do do not go into PC world and buy what they call "gaming machines" because I had look today and for what they charging they ain't gaming machines... very piss poor specs for an high price..
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/iconqu... for example and keep in mind you have add say weather or not to include windows 7 so that adds to price

I would go for the Iconguer pc nice specs and good machine for gaming
That's a good spec machine and very powerful...But I would check out other company's first.. Me I wouldn't bother with dell my experience not the greatest in the world but that's my point of view
The best way to get an affordable gaming desktop is to buy one with a fast processor and 4 to 6GB of ddr3 ram. Then buy a video card and put it in yourself. It's very easy to install one, I have a 460GTX that performs very well. The 460 cost me $200 USA money.
