Why would my choice of attire matter so much for this type of position? I applied for a job in my area where I would be assembling gym equipment in some warehouse. Even though I’m only 19, i have had several years of experience putting together fitness equipment as my father owns his own business and does pretty much the same thing. Even the lady that set up the interview over the phone told me that my resume was good and that I qualify very well for the job. She even mentioned that she rarely ever finds people with such qualifications and she was very eager to set up the interview as soon as possible. They wouldn’t even need to train me if they hired me. I tried to dress casual as I believed I would look ridiculous if I dressed up like I was going to church for a warehouse job. But as soon as I walked in the manager criticized me for wearing a plain white t-shirt, and sneakers; something that I would typically wear for this job. He then told me he wasn’t interested anymore and refused to even jnterview me. Why would he rather hire some phaggot that doesn’t even know what he’s doing just because he shows up to a blue collar job in a suit and tie over someone like me who has years of experience and would do a good job? Do you believe what he did was right or was he just being overbearing? This was in fact my first interview so I might just be ignorant.

I was going to give you a good valid answer to your question that would have served you well for the rest of your life, but then I saw that you used the word "phaggot ", and decided that you aren't worth my effort.
"But as soon as I walked in the manager criticized me for wearing a plain white t-shirt, and sneakers;"
I doubt he did -- if he is that unaware of legalities and proper decorum ... you should be glad you did not get the job
as for qualification ,,,, heck I could train a "good" worker in no time for said work
I cannot train (abide) a slacker who will not even were a dress shirt slacks and dress shoes to a job interview.... I agree why are you not working for your dad?
the simple fact is a good attitude and showing up on time and dress appropriate is the most import part of the job when a new hire is made., I do not let my repairment dress in sneakers and T-shirts -- no jeans either
at least wore worker khakis
what you do not understand a employer see you at what he figures in your best
EFFORT on the interview,, knowing after you have the job you will stop putting any effort in
you need to also have understanding of proper decorum
the problem is many many people are choosing to close business because the only hires they get now days are bad employees..... soon your only choice will be those mega business young people hate. While your under the impression business exist to provide jobs,,, the fact is they exist to make a profit for the owners and if not profitable they will fail to exist. All the T-shirt wearing holes in jeans and too short of dress people I hired NEVER were good workers.
While you have a great explanation for where what you feel is appropriate for the job you will also have excuses for being late, screwing off on the work day losing tools and stealing and doing the assemblies incorrect but good enough for your expectations
His loss
That's his loss
For an interview you dress like you want the CEO position no matter what you are interviewing to do. T-shirt, are you kidding? I would not have spent 2 minutes with you and those would be to educate you about what one wears to an interview. Learn from this.
I would never hire someone who showed up in sneakers for an interview...I bet your dad wouldn't either.
You don't mention what pants you were wearing. Shorts, jeans, what? Were they clean and without holes?
We aren't getting a full picture of what you wore, but he likely thought you were disrespectful in your clothing choice.
Neither of you were at fault!
I'm sure he wasn't looking for a suit and tie. Just what WERE you wearing? Clean? Holes in it? You should have worn something other than just a plain white t-shirt for an interview. He wasn't wrong. You were.
thats cause he was being a jerk, maybe you should work for your dad
