Can se usa para expresar la capacidad de hacer algo. Como no sabes nadar entonces se usa "cannot". No se traduce como "(no) poder", sino como "(no) saber hacer algo". En este momento no tenés la capacidad para nadar porque no aprendiste. Otro ejemplo: I can't drive (No sé conducir), pero sin embargo si puedo aprender.
