I'm so very new to Islam and I'm a bit confused about rules during Ramadan. I have a fiancé who always been Muslim. His faith is strong, but I'm not sure if this is truly a rule for Ramadan! We live in different country, so we mostly speak online. My question is, he claims we cannot see each other while we are fasting. We can only talk on the phone and write to each other, but not send any pictures that's not appropriate. I completely understand this! But how not seeing each other online during fasting can cause any problems? I asked him and he said its because we aren't married yet! Does this matter, if we don't talk about inappropriate topics?

Well he's being a bit too strict, during Ramadan a person is supposed to fast (no food or sex from sunset to sunrise), embrace spiritualism, avoid unnecessary materialism, perform charity, and avoid things that might lead to sin. So I'm guessing since the internet has a lot of unhealthy temptations, that is why he is avoiding it. But i think he is a bit over the top by not talking to you. Tell him chatting once in while isn't bad, if he still refuse don't worry, Ramadan is already more than halfway done.
Salam Based on sharia law we Muslims are not allowed to perform dating just like in western countries because kissing, hugging and embracing with non mahram are strictly forbidden in Islam.not only during Ramadan but also out of Ramadan. It not true if you can not see each other online during Ramadan but touching each other physically is always forbidden.
Your meetings are supposed to be chaperoned (your guardian present) even if the relationship is online.
In the month of Ramadan, the amount of blessings you get for a good deed is increased; likewise, the consequences of committing a sin is multiplied. Talking to a woman without her guardian present is a sin, thus he is abstaining from it because it is the holy month.
Whatever you do in the month of Ramadan, you should try to do outside of it as well. A sin is still a sin, and a good deed is still a good deed.
LOL ask him for the fatwa on Internet during Ramadan
But go easy and prepare him first, Muslims tend to get unstable when
bluntly faced with the truth
