With GERD, the act of laying flat will cause the stomach contents to seep into the esophagus, which then give you the feeling of nausea which makes you cough, and in many cases, puke. With GERD, it is best to sleep with your head and upper body elevated. This way there is less likelihood that the stomach contents will seep into the esophagus.
no, reflux is caused by the area just below your neck, it's actually where the stomach & esophagus meet, so elevation is best in your case...the pillow can still be used, but instead of getting a hospital bed, they sell wedge pillows to use as a trunk raiser...medical supply companies sell them, & so do drug stores that merchandise medical equipment...
