On October 26th, 2010 I went to the landlord through a Craigslist to look at the room in a basement that cost $700.00 for 1 months rent and $700.00.for a 1 months security. I told him I am interested than he charge me $1,400.00 for rent/security without a receipt to move in for 3 days when the room is ready. Than 3 days later i told the landlord I change my mind not to move in the room that am not interested because my boyfriend don't want me to move in there than my landlord refuse to give me back the $1,400.00. So my boyfriend called a police on him than they said to my boyfriend that they can't just force the landlord to give me back the $1,400.00 and I will have to go to the small claims court but I were unable to file a claim on the landlord to get that money back because he won't give out his full name with his information. Is there any other way I can get the $1,400.00 back and is it too late for me to fight this guy to get that money back ? I waited too long in 10 years to try to fight this asshole to give me back that money because I got stuck on that very bad because of him not getting his full name with his information to file a claim on him.
Please everyone help me !!!?

Taking your story as 100% true, YOU breached the contract and are legally and morally entitled to ZILCH.
He didn't rob you. YOU paid the price for refusing to live up to your commitment.
In my state it is too late. Btw, it is not clear that you would win. You might paid for the right to use the place. The fact that you decided not to use it does not mean that you did not get the right that you paid for
9 yrs ago? Forget about it you will not be getting it now........... and unlikely you would have got it even if you had gone to small claims court back then so you changed your mind, so you lost the deposit anyway and as it was month to month and you pay a months rent in advance and have to give one months notice to leave then the landlord would have won in court anyway as the first months rent you paid would be seen as your months notice
You waited too long. He is in his right to keep the 1400 as the 700 is deposit and 700 is rent to hold the place for you.
I am sorry to inform you but the case is far too old to do anything about it now, Many states only permit claims against landlords for a limited period, a year perhaps.
Even if you could, you would lose the case. You backed out of a contractual obligation.
