The displacement (in meters) of a particle moving in a straight line is given by s = t^2 − 8t + 19, where t is measured in seconds.
(a) Find the average velocity over each time interval.
(ii) [3.5, 4]

(iii) [4, 5]

The average velocity = Δs/Δt
s = t^2 − 8t + 19
s(3.5) = 3.25
s(4) = 3
so in the interval: [3.5 , 4]
Avg. v = (3 - 3.25)/(4 - 3.5) = -0.25/05 = -0.5 m/s => negative sign is indication of the direction of displacement.
You can do the rest.
