If you only knew how many insects enter our food supply and are eaten by unsuspecting people, you would realize that eating an insect is not a health hazard. Actually, most insects are high in protein.
In the scenario you mention, I would silently remove the insect and fold it into my napkin and continue enjoying my salad. Now, if it was a maggot or a cockroach, I would lose my appetite for that salad and it would remain uneaten, even still, without mentioning it to the hostess. The way I see it, what is done is done and time to move on.

i would just not eat it and tell thenn why, they need to know cause they probably didnt know it was there
