Solve for x: 4(x − 1) = 2(x + 2) + 6?
a) x = –4
b)x = 5
c)x = –4 and x = 5
d)No Solution
2/(x + 2) + a million/5 = 6/(x + 5) The liquid crystal show is (x + 2)(5)(x + 5) 2(5)(x + 5) + (x + 2)(x + 5) = 6(x + 2)(5) remedy 10(x + 5) + x^2 + 7x + 10 = 30(x + 2) 10x + 50 + x^2 + 7x + 10 = 30x + 60 combine like words. x^2 + 10x + 7x - 30x + 50 + 10 - 60 = 0 x^2 - 13x = 0 element an x. x(x - 13) = 0 Set each and each to 0. x = 0 x - 13 = 0 x - 13 + 13 = 0 + 13 x = 13 the respond is D x = 0 and 13 5/(x^2 - 4) + 2/x = 2/(x - 2) The liquid crystal show is (x^2 - 4)(x)(x - 2) 5(x)(x - 2) + 2(x^2 - 4)( x - 2) = 2(x)(x^2 - 4) 5x(x - 2) + 2(x^3 - 2x^2 - 4x + 8) = 2x(x^2 - 4) element. 5x^2 - 10x + 2x^3 - 4x^2 - 8x + sixteen = 2x^3 - 8x combine like words. 2x^3 - 2x^3 + 5x^2 - 4x^2 -10x - 8x + 8x + sixteen = 0 x^2 - 10x + sixteen = 0 persist with the quadratic equation. (-b ± ? 4(x - 1) = 2(x + 2) + 6
4x - 4 = 2x + 4 + 6
4x - 4 = 2x + 10
2x = 14
x = 7.
4x = 2x + 14
x = 7
Im guessing D because its none of the others?
what you do is distribute the 4 and the 2 on both sides of the equation (multiply the 4 and 2 by their respective parenthesis)
4x-4=2x+4+6
4x-4=2x+10
add the 4 from one side of the equation to the other
4x=2x+14
subtract 2x from one side of the equation
2x=14
divide both sides of the equation by 2
x=7
x=7 is not one of your choices and i don't know why go with d...?
4x-4=2x+4+6 now seperate x so 2x=14 divide by two x=7
