I’m really interested in travelling the world one day and my family and I always go out sailing. So I was thinking about joining the navy but firstly I’m a girl and secondly I don’t really know much about it. Does anyone have any pros and cons or advice on cool jobs to go into? I’m also choosing my options at school now so maybe knowing a job idea will help me choose them.

If your only reason to join the Navy is to see the world you might be in for a big surprise. When I was in the Navy I spent 3 years at the Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi. Didn't see the world until I re-enlisted into a different branch of the military years later.
A cool job is what YOU like doing.
No matter how "cool" a job is- if you hate it -you'll hate waking up every day to do it for 12-14 hours every day.
There are plenty of pro's and cons to anything- What might suck to you, I'd enjoy, but standing watch at Oh-dark-30 in the rain sucks, so does mess cranking.
The best advice anyone can give you now is pay attention and study in school- because the better you do on your ASVAB, the more jobs they'll be able to offer you.
I probably would never have seen New York, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Italy, Spain, Greece, England, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Vancouver, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Panama, Singapore - had I joined another branch of the military.
The Navy is a job. The adventure comes naturally with it. You could be at sea for days/weeks. Talk to a Navy Recruiter.
I loved all the travel and the Navy took me all over the world.
If you are single, it can be a great life..........but if you are married with kids........you can be away a lot........and that's a lot harder when you have family who need you.
Days at sea are long, and you are busy.........but when you hit ports like Japan and Australia, and Hong Kong....... sure beats the hell about of humping 80 lb packs through Baghdad in 100 degree heat.
Retired after 24 years in the Navy.
Worked as a civilian for another twenty or so years after leaving the service.
Navy was way better in two respects: got to see more of the world and live overseas now and then, and the Navy work was less boring and the people were better trained than the civilian jobs and staff.
If you have no clue what you'd like to do as a career after HS or college, going into the service will expose you to all kinds of work. And if you find one you're good at and like, your career issues are solved. At the very least you are getting paid while trying to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life.
Go Navy, beat Army.
Its like military but on the sea
