I'm in the process of writing a review of the album and am anxious to hear the opinion's of the "general public", or rather you heavy metal/hard rock lovers of R&P who have already heard the album.
However, I will accept first-time-listeners' opinions as well.

BQ: Favorite heavy metal or hard rock release of 2012?
BQ2: Do you like any of the three members of Adrenaline Mob? [Mike Orlando, Russell Allen, Mike Portnoy]
Update:[Speak English or Die]
I'd have to agree with you on that. I expected much more.
I just wrote this review today, if you care to view it: http://musicalindulgence.wordpress.com/2012/06/14/...
Also, do you not like Transatlantic? I actually prefer them (another Portnoy project) to Dream Theater, but that's only because LaBrie annoys me.

Honestly I was expecting much more from a project featuring Mike Portnoy and Russell Allen. The album has some cool songs but overall it's just meh. Nothing really that impressive on it. I was expecting it to be like a combo of Dream Theater and Symphony X but it turned out to be nothing more than a modern rock/metal album.
BQ: Probably The Electric Age by Overkill. Torture by Cannibal Corpse was surprisingly very good as well though.
BQ2: Yep. Portnoy and Allen. Dream Theater and Symphony X are two of my favorite bands.
EDIT: I just read the review and I pretty much agree with what you said. Each member has their moments throughout the album but as a whole it didn't come together as I expected it to.
And I do like Transatlantic. I'll admit I'm not as much into then as I am Dream Theater but from what I've heard I like it a lot. And I agree that James LaBrie is a very mediocre vocalist and he is painful to listen to at times. It was all downhill for him after Images and Words. I wonder what they would've been like if they had kept Charlie Dominici around a bit longer.
I was mildly interested in the album because of Mike Portnoy, but I didn't have heightened expectations for it, actually it's about as good as I was expecting. In my experience super group albums tend to be pretty average. Look at bands like Chicken Foot. It just goes to show that amazing musicianship is wasted without amazing song writing. I'm not saying super groups aren't capable of writing amazing songs, just that it doesn't seem to happen most of the time.
BQ: So far, Clockwork Angels- Rush
BQ2- I'm a fan of Portnoy
