On my test i graphed f(x)=-2cosx+1 and i started below 0 on the y axis since it’s negative but I got it marked wrong?
i thought positive cos starts above the midline and negative cos starts below the midline. so how come when i graphed -2cosx+1 my teacher indicates that it’s above the midline. Did i miss something?
You would be right. The y-intercept of this graph is -1. Perhaps you did something else wrong? I remember in my trig class we had to graph Functions a certain way, and label all our points we used.

If x = 0, -2 cos(x) + 1 = -2 cos(0) + 1 = -2(1) + 1 = -1. The y-intercept is (0, -1), so your starting below the x-axis at x = 0 is RIGHT. :)

Just google
-2cos(x)+1
It will give you the graph.
At x = 0, cos(x=0) = 1 thus -2cos(0)+1 = -2*1 + 1 = -1.
