Regarding company-paid trips. It's whatever you can get away with. When you get fired, you know you went too far. Seriously, all companies are different, and it depends on your position with the company. Morality has little to do with it. It is a question of company policy.
Most companies set up your travel accommodations when they send you on a trip.
But if they don't, I would stay in a middle of the road motel, probably take a taxi, if I had a lot of stuff to carry, wine is the norm for a lot of people with dinner, and if it's a business meeting dinner it's ok. Taking your spouse........... that's iffy. I would check with my employer to make sure it's ok.
If you do those things and then your employer finds out, it could mean you lose your job..

It all depends on the policies at your company. Make sure you're not operating outside of policy. You could lose your jobs.
