Now that galileo is about to be finished why should europeans still use the US system (which can be blocked from the US) for their advanced weapons.

btw. what makes you think that "europe" is not able to protect themselfes.
They don´t spend as much as the US thats true but they still spend about 30% of the whole global defence budged.
So now the US spends more than 50% and the "EU" spends about 30% this leaves about 20% for the whole rest of the world. (so china, russia + all other countries left who are not in the US or europe togetter only come up to 20% if you combine them all)
Just for example germany alone spends more than russia on defence.
Now look at the EU and this will be a no contest.

Hey genius: the rockets aren't flying as we speak, only the first 2. The system won't be operational at all until 2014, and it most likely won't be military ready until 2020. Come back in 9 years and try again.
NATO should have died a natural death when The Soviet Union deteriorated and crashed. What is Western Europe being defended against? Serbian terrorists?
I still can't figure out what useful purpose it serves except as a forward base for US troops and Air power to hit Iran, which was the real reason to invade Iraq.
Note: the US can also turn off Galileo, or they would perceive it as a threat in time of war, and shoot down the satellites.( The bully police, never sleep)

Wait, what? Europe would actually do something to defend themselves without relying on America that they have become accustomed too. Yeah, doubt it, cause the Europeans would actually have to spend money on national defense. Oh no!
I'm pretty sure satellite systems weren't the primary reason NATO was created.
...well, technically, they did have a large part, but Sputnik was a long time ago.
What advanced weapons? Europe has slashed their defense budgets and they're more dependent on the US now then they ever were before. They couldn't even take out Libya on their own.
