Spartacus blood and sands +gods of the arena imo the other 2 weren't as good (about a gladiator)

Breaking Bad (about a guy who finds out he has cancer and gets into the drug circle to provide for his family)

Dexter ( a serial killer)

Firefly (sci fi about a renegade crew)

Game Of Thrones is the best of its genre so no point trying to find something there, but these are really good IMO.

Oh but if you are looking for something in that genre you could look at the tudors, borgias or something like that ( I didn't watch them as they weren't as good).
