Most likely you heard that from your girlfriend since it's not likely her parents would come right out and say they didn't like you right off the bat. Try to determine what it is that they don't like about you and see if it's something that you can or are willing to change and is their dislike due to something reasonable or unreasonable? If you were a parent, do you think that you would have the same objections if your own daughter dated someone like you? As a parent, the only time I have disliked my child's choice in a partner has had to do with maturity level, lack of education, lack of direction or income that came from a less than legal activity. You can also see that when someone is involved with a person that's really not good for them, the relationship tends to bring out the worst qualities in both people. It's quite conceivable that they know nothing about you, but that they don't like the way their daughter is since she's been with you. The best way to overcome these types of objections, is to try to spend time with them socially and prove that you're not the lazy, misguided person that they probably think you are. Further, if your girlfriend is busy telling you the low opinion that her parents have of you, it's very likely that they have that opinion because of things she's said to them about you. Parents are very protective so if a child comes home and says "Alvaro is such a jerk, we got into a huge fight last night" then even if she started it, her parent's perception is that "Alvaro is a jerk to our daughter." It depends on how important this relationship with their daughter is to you on how you should proceed. The most important thing is that your girlfriend is a priority for all of you and you have that in common with them. Help them see that you will always put her first and that even though no one is perfect, there is room for improvement. As a parent, I want to see that my child's partner cares about them, is reliable, honest, will be there when the chips are down, and has an excellent work ethic so that as a couple, they can always make their way in the world.

Just be respectful and decent. Behave like a gentleman. I don't see what else you can do.
