She freely admits that there’s no evidence for the existence of God, [other than nature – “Just look at the trees, they exist!”] She also admits that not one single fact or piece of evidence could ever cause her to question their faith. She might as well say that her religion is a complete fantasy and has no basis whatsoever in reality, right?
I’m positive that lots of people feel the same way. So my question is, how can so many people accept life such an unintellectual, unreasonable, and illogical fantasy world? Doesn’t reality offer more?
Update:@ Michael – I don’t assume that she’s “mental”, but she freely admitted that her religion isn’t based on facts or evidence, nor could any new fact or evidence cause her to reevaluate her faith. This is the very definition of fantasy. What I said was that she’s living a fantasy, not that she’s “mental”.
@ Faceless - <<<Why do [you] care that people really think that way?>>>
Well, for one, I still care about her, and I’m having trouble with her rejection of reality. And secondly, are you aware of the state of science education in this country; the hindrance to new medical cures such as stem cell research; the hostility towards civil rights; the merging of church and state: [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7h08RDYA5E&playnex... WTF?!?, who in their right mind brings a Bible to a Congressional hearing on Climate Change?]; the rewriting of our nation’s history to make all the founding fathers Christians; etc…

I hate to use the term and mean no offense, but people like her sound like they're brain-washed. Honestly, it confuses me how people can truley think like that.
Honestly, as a new Christian, I cannot understand the whole young earth thing. But I can accept others believe in it. For me faith wasn't enough, I couldn't just believe in something with no evidence whatsoever. I couldn't listen to what other people say because everyone will be biased one way or the other whether they try to or not. I went by feelings. I was miserable before I joined and feel pretty good now. that was the evidence I needed. I think some people come to it out of fear, some because it was how they were raised, etc,
Maybe she is going on this feeling too, it's not scientific, but it makes sense.
If your girlfriend truly said her faith has no evidence what so ever and she believes in it "just because" and can never be changed from that faith then your ex-girlfriend is an idiot. Which explains why she went out with some as obnoxious as yourself.
But no, "lots of people" don't feel the same way. They have reasons for their faith. Life experiences, their own evidence. Now don't get me wrong, none of it can be tested in a Laboratory and have the test say "Positive for traces of God". But as any scientific mind should know just because it's not understood yet doesn't mean it can't be understood.
They accept "fantasy" because they believe that within the reality that you are talking about is a higher power. Reality is flat--it is definable, measured, static. Faith is the space between the numbers, and so reality does not really offer "more." Reality is small. Faith is limitless.
Well Ben, why do care that people really think that way? Some people are happy not caring about what made us, and just go with the flow.
I cant believe i said that, but your question seemed to bother me for some reason...
The bible says that there would be plenty of egotistical people like you trying to flatter yourself by denying The existence of God.
Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and GODHEAD; so that they are without excuse:
Acts 17:29
Inasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the GODHEAD is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
You not only do not know who to look for because of your sudo intelligence, You don't know how to look for Him. Your own pride keeps you from looking for fear somebody may find out. Too bad. Its called pride. Maybe God will humble you enough to seek Him out. He loves you you know.
Faith goes way beyond fantasy.
Would you call Keppler, Newton, Jung, etc unintellectual, unreasonable & illogical?
If so what ARE you on?
Reality doesn't promise eternal bliss in an afterlife.
They are just cowards who never want to fully die, and religion offers them comfort to that fear.
Why do atheists assume that if a person believes in God that there's automatically something wrong with the person? I'm sick and tired of "religion is a mental disorder".
