Are Milk•Bones really that bad? If I was only to give my dog a few a day, would it be Ok? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for a popular, yummy, not-to-high-priced, dog treat? He is 43 pounds, if that helps.
One of our local vets discourages people from using Milk Bones (I have to admite I sometimes do). The reasons are because all the wheat, corn, colors, animal digest, bi-products and some other nasty ingredients. You can either go online to holistic dog food sites and find great bones and other treats, go to a speciality pet store, or even at Wal-Mart (example, Rachael Ray's new dog biscuits) you can get treats with natural ingredients (just take a second to look at what is in the bones). It is worth it and way better for your dog.
What makes an low priced treat tasty to a dog, is the entire sprayed-on taste enhancers. In the event you read the labels on most treats, they're made from all the stuff you are looking to preclude by means of buying a healthful food like CN-- wheat, corn, soy, by way of-products, and many others. The wellbeing treats are good, however pricey. Why not keep a little bag on your fridge of your leftoevers- inexperienced beans, some boiled or roasted bird bits with out the skin or cooked bones- and give these as an occasional deal with? Or carrots or blueberries. It is less expensive, and much better for them. Excellent luck.
