If there was a magic wand that actually works - that's about the only way to speed up recovery from a cold. There is no medication available to get rid of viruses that cause a cold. The good thing is that you are nearing the average length of a cold anyhow.
A few things that may help a little are: taking Mucinex D to help clear mucus, using a humidifier in yrou room at night, getting a little extra sleep, getting mild aerobic exercise each day, and drinking extra fluids. Hopefully your symptoms will begin to clear up before the trip.
Be sure you don't have something else like pneumonia - if you feel a "pop" when you breathe, you might have pneumonia. A week for a chest cold is a longer time than normal. You might also have an upper respiratory bacterial infection. A z-pak will shape that up in 4 or 5 days. If it's a cold virus, you just have to wait it out.
Sorry, but if you got the common one going around now up in the northeast, it's going to hang around for the next month and there is nothing you can do about it.
A cold virus takes up to 10 days to resolve itself..it will take longer if you don't rest and drink plenty of fluids..the rest allows your bodies immune system to do its work and the fluids help thin mucus so you can get rid of it. there are reasons for that old fashioned advice.
If you are as sick as you were at the beginning, you may have a secondary infection that needs antibiotics. In that case see your doctor.

Go to the doctor. You might have bronchitis which left untreated could become walking pneumonia. That would definitely wreck your vacation.
