Formal, grammar-book-correct Spanish would require "voy a ver la television." However, native speakers of spanish, like native speaker of english, speak in a wide spectrum of grammatical correctness. For Spanish speakers in the United States in particular, Spanish constructions seem to have become more English-like over time, which is only natural. I don't know the context in which you want to express this thought, but it can't hurt to stick in the "la".
while reading a book, you're stimulating your brain. You transform your life reading and literacy skills therefore you in the process, become more literate. Even with today's modern tools, you nevertheless still need to be able to read.
While watching t.v. can be good fun, it is not doing anything to the human brain.

Seems right to me.
Or you could say voy a ver t.v.
The "v in spanish is pronounced as a "b" in spanish
"Voy a ver televisión" or "Voy a ver la televisión" can be used indistinctly.
