This my 3rd day on this med for depression and anxiety. I notice it gives me short term memory lost. My passion is reading and when I read I forget everything and I don’t learn nothing. I don’t see the point of taking this med if I can’t do what I love. How long will it take for me to go back to normal when I don’t take it tomorrow?

Medications such as lexapro, and anything for depression or mood disorders are going to have some short-term side-effects. Most of the time, they subside. But if you've been taking the drug for three days, you don't have to wean yourself off. You can just stop it.
I hope you feel better. Sometimes the power of our minds is much more effective than medications. Lots of great information for anxiety self-help and depression self-help on line. It takes effort and work to make positive life changes, but if you're aiming to feel better you have to put forth effort. It works when we work it!
And there are self-help books out there, too. And therapy. Again, utilizing all of these things to work on feeling better takes YOUR EFFORT. There is no magic to it.
Recovering in as many ways as we can is just like making any other positive goal in life. Even if we want to buy a car, or save X amount of money--we need to make the effort to do it.
You CAN. Never give up!! Do the work it takes in the long term. (not for a day or a week or a month). best wishes.
If i can do it, you can too
How long should it take.
What you asked isn't a question but a statement.
you don't stop taking it yourself you see a doctor first
I can help. I have severe Bipolar Disorder with an Anxiety Disorder and have been on Lexapro for many years. You need to give the Lexapro time to build up and work in your system. It can take up to four weeks to start working and you will notice a difference in a good way. Talk to your psychiatrist about stopping Lexapro. I REALLY hope that helps you out. If I helped you please vote me for best answer. Feel better HUGZ Raymond
Stopping medication except under a doctor’s supervision is always a bad idea. The withdrawal effects are nasty and can go on for weeks.
Contact your prescribing doctor. You may need a dosage adjustment or a different medication or both.
I'd wait and give it a month. Worst case scenario - you lose a month of reading. Best case scenario - you adjust to the med and feel great and the memory problems stop. Most side effects dissipate over time.
However, if you stop taking it it shouldn't take long. A couple days maybe.
Don't stop the medication yet. It always causes nothing but a bunch of side effects at first. All antidepressants seem to do this. By the second or third week, it starts to work properly and most of the side effects disappear. Problems with reading comprehension and forgetfulness are likely to go away. If you stop taking it now, it should be out of your system in 3-4 days.
