We do things we don't like only to get other things we do want. We diet to be trim. We exercise to be fit. We save money so we'll have wealth one day.
We like things we don't do, because we judge the cost of doing them as too expensive. We all like to indulge in the pleasures of life, but if we do everything we want all the time, we collide with things - like, no cheating on the spouse, don't eat everything that tastes good, don't sleep in on a work day, etc.
Although the question packages up into a cutesy little yin and yan thing, is it really mysterious to anyone why we do what we do in those ways?
We do things we don't like because sometimes we need to. We like some things we never get to do because doing things we don't like sometimes prohibits us from doing the things we do like.
