What is the father's will is a selfish desire on the part of the father. A person of good character would ignore the selfish father.
It is about true and false disciples. The unjust persecution of others using religion as a shield is wrong. Think of the Salem witch trials. There are many other examples far worse than what happened there.
"22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’
Just to curry favour, what sort of a person is this? What does it say about their character? The next verse needs little explanation.
23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' "
They only served their own ends, and will receive their just reward.
Well here is the reference itself to aid others who don't want to look it up lst with a few addt'l verses from before 21 too:
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth devil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Doing the Father's will is obeying the commandments of God - which is as far from iniquity or sin as one can get. And certainly a persons character is seen in their righteous acts, christlike obedience to gospel principles and Christ Himself said "if ye love me, keep my commandments"... thus, the love you ask about.
All good works are included in the "by their fruits ye shall know them" - so service, charity, love of fellowman, honest, morality, integrity, virtue and every other good thing, good fruit and christian attitude is all inclusive in what is asked of anyone who seeks to truly be CHristlike (or Christian).
And since God knows perfectly the intents of our hearts and just how sincerely we ARE doing anything that we do - then only HE knows ultimately whether we are doing the WILL of the Father or are 'workers' of iniquity' in reality.
Good-day,
This verse is meaning, we must mean it with our hearts, if we believe in Jesus Christ.
You will go to Heaven, only if you believe and accept His Son, Jesus Christ. :D(John:6:47, and John:3:16) God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, and He died on the Cross for our sins, and rose on the third day, and whoever believes and loves Him will have Ever Lasting Life. :D (John:3:16) By believing and loving Jesus Christ, is the way to Heaven. :D
Thank you
