I have an older HK AVR 240 w/o HDMI connections. New Panasonic “50 Plasma tv, blu ray and HD cable Box with HDMI. Sounds. Problem. Can’t get any audio from TV/netflix through AVR. Tried optical audio but still no sound. Help

What you want to do is go to your on screen display (if your model has it) or manual (you can find the PDF manual for your model with a search) and set what ever audio it is plugged into to optical. If it is not set it will not work as in your case. I also own a non HDMI H/K and that is what I had to do for it to work.
