You are making a mistake in using a tanning be, but you will realize that in years to come.
A 10-minute session in a tanning bed is equal to about one hour spent on the beach under the hot mid-day sun without protection. So think of your first visit as like tanning in the sun for an hour. If it would normally take you a week to get a tan, then you can expect it to take 5-7 sessions on a tanning bed to get the equivalent damage/tanning.
The whole point of using a salon and slowing increasing your time is to prevent burning. Red equal burn. Burn also means your skin is likely to peel. Don't go for the burn in this case. Accept that a tanning bed is faster but it isn't instantaneous. It may take you just as long to visit a salon and get in 20 minutes on a tanning bed as it would just to go outside. If you want an immediate short-term result, a spray tan is a better choice for many reasons.
