Most Americans eat a Standard American Diet (SAD) that is high in animal proteins, fat, oil, sugars, salt, refined carbohydrates, aspartame (diet drinks), caffeine, alcohol, colorings, artificial flavorings (MSG), and other harmful additives and contaminants. This results in excess body fat and health problems. That affects a person's perceived and actual attractiveness to other people. That's why dieting has become a billion dollar business that is totally ineffectual.
On the other extreme, we have young teens who equate thinness with beauty. Those who binge eat will purge resulting in a death defying lifestyle and a body that resembles a skeleton with some fat pockets. Sadly, they missed the idea of storing calories in muscle tissue instead of fat.
Somewhere else are body builders and athletes who take pride in there physical condition. Often, they will eat a well balanced vegetarian diet. Many will consume a limited quantity of animal based foods. Resistance training and aerobic training are often part of this lifestyle.
Regardless of the category, people often falsely believe that all their problems will be solved when they look a certain way. Instead, they continue with most of the same problems and no solutions.
