Italy was one of the first countries outside China to have outbreaks because Milan, Italy has a large Chinese population working in the textiles industry - Milan is a world center of fashion. The Chinese were locking down Wuhan but didn't care that people were getting on planes and taking it to the rest of the world. Infected people went to Milan and it got started there.
In mid-February in a city not far from Milan, Bergamo, a soccer match was held between the Italian club Atalanta and the Spanish club Valencia. An estimated 40,000 people packed the stadium, including hundreds who traveled from Spain.
Atalanta won the game 4-1, and as the Italian tradition is for fans to hug and kiss after the home team scores, that happened at least four times. Less than a week later, the hospitals in the area were filling up with sick people, and one third of the Spanish team had the virus. No one knows how many people picked up the virus at that match, but all those people went home and gave it to many, many others.
And this all happened before any steps were in place to slow the spread.
We are fighting this virus all over the world & different places have different results as to how they handled it. Not too concerned about the rest of the world as it is very active where I live. Home front is more important than what happens over the rest of the world.
