In the USA there is enough technology to help many countries develop their own sources to use solar energy. There would be no need to continue to explore more oil and gas. For instances, in Mexico, Central America, and some South American Countries, as well as, African countries there is not winter and the sun shines strong 12 hour a day. Developing solar energy cars, house systems, would eliminate the importation of oil in huge scale. But the greed is bigger and they want explore to sell oil.
What do you think?

Woa wait a minute! Enough technology does not mean enough financers who would take the massive risk. This includes both private/public companies and governments. The incentive is a high return on money invested particularly with the escalated risks associated with investing in new technology and in investment in other countries. Even Government grants/loans to other countries work on this basis. It is financially as well as politically driven.
If there was this massive investment in solar energy in other countries, this would not prevent other investors/governments from prospecting for oil or gas. Those involved in the oil business want to continue to receive high returns for their past investments for as long as possible and maintain the associated political power. As there would be diminishing returns for oil in terms of quantity, this would make it even more lucrative as prices would be driven yet higher. Supply and demand.
What motivation is there other than greed? The answer is politics and power and the three are always bedfellows.
In Marxist ideas it is the ownership of the means of production that determines who holds power. The owners supply a tiny part of the total labour/time to create total profit. The workers are under the owners control via payment of wages. It is the class division caused by the percentage of 'profit' that the person takes ie: wages for workers versus control over entire profit for owners. Land and equipment are means of production. Money is POWER.
How do we stop greed? There is only one real way, that is to make the risks of not acting in the desired way worse than acting in the desired way. A dying man or a starving man are not interested in more than he needs to keep alive. He is not interested in collecting assets or the needs of any body else. It is a purely selfish motivator. So risk of death or very serious harm? Not my preferred choices.
Permaculture Answer: Being more self reliant, growing your own food, growing your own power (timber) or producing your own power and growing natural resources. Limiting your own consumption of everything including family size are the best solutions for individuals. Passing on any over production to others within the community. There are finite resources. If you personally exploit other people and the environment by overconsumption and larger family size leading to overpopulation then these resources will not be available to other people. In Permaculture these are the ethics of Fair Shares, Earth Cares and People Care. Think globally act locally.

Well right now I think that there really isn't much that we can do if we are still greedy but I hope that in the futrure that there will be some tech. For example I saw a tv show that on discovery channel that talked about hydrogen cars that the exhaust is water so that would greatly reduce carbon emissions that are being put in the atmosphere. Also one day our hydrogen cars will be able to power our homes too
my advice invest in hydrogen tech
What YOU can do to help is be pro-active and not follow the examples so much, of others. Meaning, go out and pick up trash on your own time, use the new eco light bulbs in your home and encourage others to do so, try not to change your car oil sooner than 3000 miles or use a longer lasting oil in your car. What I am saying is YOU should be the example for others to try and follow by doing your part!
You will have to have a major world disaster take place, one that rocks the high thrones and pedestals the rich have put themselves on, in order for them to use there power and influence into making drastic changes in the world. I say world disaster because there is nothing that brings people of all "classes" more together, than the realization that the world can pull the carpet out from under anyone it wants, rich or poor.
But it is human nature to be greedy. Everybody is greedy to a certain extant, meaning that everyone wants something more than they need, wether it'd be a little candy bar or a trillion dollars.Just some people more so than others. It's just one of those questions that doesn't have an easy answer I'm afraid!
Some peole (like nviromentlists for example) over come there greed. And with some peopl it's not greed, it's that they don't want to except (becuase there afraid) that are enviroment needs help. Everyone should do a little bit to help, like turn off lights, shorter showers, ect and bit by bit are enviroment will become better!
The only real thing to do is only have 2 children or less. The less people we have in the world, the better to save our resources like oil, water, and food.
the greed kills the solutions
so there is little real hope

the solutions are a totally different style of societies
horticultural ones (garden culture ) not so much technological.
like the Hobbits were.
concentrating on the quality of life and food
Capitalism/Marxism
I think we need to support political candidates that aren't in the pockets of big oil companies.
