It's disgusting and just another rip off.Yesterday i received notification that my driving licence photo needed renewing as it was 10 years since the last one.I went to the post office capable of doing that.Lost an hour of my time as they didn't know what they were doing and got charged £24 for something they wanted done.An hour of my time cost me £60 so i was £84 out of pocket. No wonder people have little money
They do it because they can get away with it. If I were a cynic I might say that it was part of a general policy to undermine the whole institution of marriage, but I haven't quite reached that stage. While, as someone else has pointed out, you are under no obligation to change your name, it is somewhat inconvenient to go under more than one name from the point of view of opening bank accounts and booking holidays abroad.
why do you have to pay ??? i changed my name ( after 7 years of marriage ) this year on my passport and it didnt cost me £77 i had to pay £22??? it was checked at the post office and i sent payment thru my bank card maybe u need to ring theyre info line and question it
Don't change your name then. A lot of woman consider this to be old fashioned these days anyway. I'm only known as Mrs [husband surname] on bills anyway and that's because they choose to call me it.
Because of the paper work involved. Thanks to heightened anti-terrorism laws and regulations, passport offices are required to be much more strict in terms of confirming identity as of late.
Because they want the money.
They can't really justify it they just do...
