The standard way on laptops is to do it that same as on a non-laptop but to use the FN key to emulate the numeric keypad. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fn_key .
If your laptop doesn’t have an FN key, check any written documentation that came with it or help files that may tell you how to do this. Some lap tops, rather stupidly seem to have no way to emulate the numeric keypad, even though in some programs the numeric keypad keys are used for different puposes than the regular number keys.
