|4x – 8| – 3x = 6x + 2
Solve the equation and write the solution set. Don’t forget to check for extraneous solutions.
I can't figure out how to solve this. I just don't get it. Can someone please show me how to solve this? Explain?
I just cant get it.

|4x – 8| = 9x + 2
First case:
4x – 8 = 9x + 2
–10 = 5x
x = –2
Second case:
–(4x – 8) = 9x + 2
–4x + 8 = 9x + 2
6 = 13x
x = 6/13
It's been a LONG time since I've had to do this, so I may be wrong. Here's what I see, though:
Leave the |4x-8| alone for the time being. Add 3x to both sides of the = sign. This will give you |4x - 8| = 9x + 2
Maybe then you start messing with the |4x-8| by subtracting that 2 from both sides and subtracting that 4x from both sides: -10 = 5x
Divide both sides by 5, and that leaves you with x = -2.
Does that look right?
2 case
1.if (4x-8)> or =0 <=> x> or = 2 we will have :(4x-8) =9x+2 => x =-2
2.if (4x-8)<0 <=> x< 2 we will have -4x+8 =9x+2 => x=6\13
so x =6\13 is right..ok? hope you unsdertand what i mean.
4x 8
Mike is right!!!
