Déjà vu literally "already seen") is the feeling of certainty that one has already witnessed or experienced a current situation, even though the exact circumstances of the prior encounter are unclear and were perhaps imagined.

It feels like I did once before, but I can't remember when...
I have had deja vu many times in my life and have actively tried to discover why it occurs. Through conversations with others who have experienced it, I have noticed that in each case, the person who had the experience, also possessed and displayed excellent memory capacity, and often remembered dreams that they had after they awoke. But, not one of them could remember all of their dreams. When we sleep, we do not stop thinking about situations and other things that are of interest to us, no matter how slight the interest might be. In other words, some of us do our best thinking while we are asleep, the reason being, fewer distractions. Knowing that we have the capacity to figure out everything in the universe, including what will happen next and what he/she/it will look like, we can apply this knowledge toward the occurrence of deja vu. We dreamed it, and now it is happening, but we cannot remember having the dream. Again, the overwhelming feeling that we have been here and done just this, before. This is deja vu.
