For all positive values of a and b, let a∆b be defined by a∆b = (ab)/(a+b). How much larger is 8∆8 than 6∆6?
What does ∆ mean? If I knew that, this would be much easier. By the way I'm not looking for the answer, because I already have that. I just need an explanation please.
The delta is just a "made-up" operation. Your definition just says: whenever you have two numbers separated by a delta, multiply them together and divide the result by their sum (as long as the two numbers are positive).
So 8 delta 8 is (8)(8) / (8 + 8), and
6 delta 6 is (6)(6) / (6 + 6)
How much larger is the first than the second? Must be
the sign u wrote here between a and b is called delta sign...look the delta sign doesnot mean any mathematical sign perticularly....It is a sign of difference where u have X2-X1 then we can say it as (delta) /\X...it is used in physics..however if we see here it shows an "OPERATION" to be done...E.G. like when u see a "+" sign it shows addition that we learnt in first-second standard..so we dont need a (definition--like we have here definition (ab)/(a+b) for delta sign ) for addition..so it just shows an operation..just put values of a & b in it and find the answer whenever u see the delta sign like 4/\5 you have to do
is (4 X 5)/(4+5).....hey if u like my answer than pls vote as best answer......
