The question is about the ELECTION of the players’ representative in the ICC cricket committee. This committee suggests ICC about the new rules to be implemented for the betterment of the game and all those things. Let’s not get into that now.
10 Test captains had to vote among Tim May and L. Shivaramakrishnan and they voted for the latter. Tim May is the CEO of FICA, player’s association and fights for player’s rights. He is the same man who pressurized BPL and SLPL to pay the pending amount to the players. For the boards, which organize these T20 leagues and don’t pay the players, this man is really a headache. Quite understandably, the SriLankan and the Bangladesh captains voted against him as ordered by their respective boards. OK, let’s not talk about the other Asian boards. Mostly, they do as ordered by the BCCI.
The question here is, why did the BCCI influence this voting process yet again? Why does the BCCI want all the committees in the ICC to be headed by its own men? Did the players really want Shivaramakrishnan in place of May? Why only the captains, whose decisions are obviously the decisions of their boards, allowed to vote? Shouldn’t there be different criteria to choose a member of the committee? Voting process will always be misused by the most influential board, in the future too, be it Australia or England or any other country for that matter.
Had Tim May not been there, Bangladesh players wouldn’t have got their money. Some haven’t got yet, I reckon.
Oh! I’ve got deviated from the actual topic. (I am not a good writer. M a good speaker though :-) ). OK, the reason why I said “BCCI flexing its muscles UNNECESSARILY” is because the committee which is headed by Anil Kumble unanimously recommended the use of DRS for all tests in 2011 and it has not yet been implemented which clearly means that the BCCI can influence the decision of ICC without its own man being the player’s representative. Then why did they again choose to become the hate party? Is it just to show their power? Do you really think Shiva will be able to do what May did or will he just become another BCCI spokesperson in the ICC?
Would like to hear unbiased views from the fellow Indians please. Actually, if you look at the matter being unbiased, you'll find that the BCCI is the culprit here. I am really pissed off. First the DRS and now this among other things. And not that, this will help Indian cricket in any way or will it?
Your opinions.........
Update:Its getting serious.

May be they are using their muscles. May be its wrong but it has always happened when someone got power. Before thirty years ago England & Australia were used to abuse their power against all Asian cricket teams. Its truth. What USA is doing in Iraq? Whats China doing in Arunachal Pradesh? Everyone who has power is abusing it. Even if you provide high official chairs of ICC to Zimbabwe players, they will try to provide inappropriate benefit to Zimbabwe cricket. Everyone uses power to get benefit. Nothing unusual happening there. It was happening, its happening, it will keep happening forever. Its not perfect world.
This just goes to show what a complete and utter shambles the ICC is. Gutless and useless administrative board that does nothing with this sort of gross interference in an election matter even when it was warned not to. That says a lot of the ICC.
BCCI just want to stock as many position with their own lackeys so they can get what they want...they know they can get away with it as a result of the toothless tigers that is the ICC.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
BCCI for Cricket is like America for World Politics.
I've never liked the way BCCI uses its power sometimes.BCCI for Cricket is like America for World Politics.
Sadly, you are quite right. Will these two stand up to the BCCI and their cronies? Not likely. But it was expected. John Howard would have been a great choice a few years ago as vice president. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka and the Asian block objected to his comments on Murali's action (justifiably as they changed the laws for him). In other words, agree with the BCCI or forget positions. And don't start me on DRS though once Tendulkar retires, they'll probably change their mind.
I agree with you...this kind of work happened many more times in the past. especially after sarad pawar takes over the cricket board. he induced his political ruse into cricket world.
If any other board has the same amount of muscles they would have done the exact same thing.
Yes.
The word notorious comes to mind.
