Not more than Jesus but they are the very next in line for respect. We should be so thankful to them. Its a sad country when we see any our soldiers living in the streets or not getting jobs or good health care after what they have done for us. God Bless Our Military Men.
Soldiers have my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. They didn't really die for me, but more for the ideals and freedom that we have in this country. Some soldiers did anyway.
Jesus Christ is my Savior, so I think what I feel for Him is different and stronger than allegiance.
Ahhh, but Jesus purchased eternal life for the faithful with His blood. The soldiers merely help ensure temporary freedom in an always warring creation.
Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
I was born in America by pure chance, does that mean that I must love and support everything my country does???
So really I'm not sure either garner much respect.
Both will have died for a cause I do not support. (Not that I want them dead, or would picket their funeral or anything... I still respect them as people!!~!!!!!)
(I'm not talking WWI, WWII Vets, just the most current Iraq deal... The 1st Iraq deal was just IMHO.)
soldiers don't get my allegiance. they may not kill in my name. they may not pronounce themselves willing to kill in my name with my consent. I know this country, and I know Jesus, and neither of them wants that kind of blood on their hands, and neither do I.
Soldiers didn't die so we could be saved, they died so we could be free. Our allegiance to them is the same as our allegiance to our country, which dies with our own death. However, our allegiance to Christ is our allegiance to God and that does NOT die when we do, it lasts for eternity.
I never asked anybody to fight for me. And their deaths won't bring forgiveness of sin and everlasting life. In fact, they will be resurrected by Jesus Christ and have a hope of everlasting life based on Jesus' death. No man deserves any glory as all glory belongs to God.

Yes. That should be the case, regardless of whether or not Jesus even existed.

Seeing as we don't have proof of Jesus even existing, soldiers deserve a million times more credit.
Especially since they are fighting for the freedoms of this country which includes the right to follow their religion.
