“We need a president who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade.” -- Fred Thompson

I believe Sen. Fred Thomson was referring to this statement that Sen. Barack Obama made during the saddleback presidential forum…
WARREN: That was a freebie. That was a gimme. That was a gimme, OK? Now, let’s deal with abortion; 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade. As a pastor, I have to deal with this all of the time, all of the pain and all of the conflicts. I know this is a very complex issue. Forty million abortions, at what point does a baby get human rights, in your view?
OBAMA: Well, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.

I didn’t want to ask this question being that it is a very touchy subject… but I’m still wondering has Barack Obama ever elaborated on what he meant by:
“,answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.” ?
What does Barack mean by that answer…? Has he ever said anything anywhere in a statement or in an interview that updates what he meant by giving an answer like that... above his "Pay grade" ?
Update:Does anyone have any links or a statement or some updated statements from Barack Obama that confirm that he was referring to God when he said above his pay grade?
I had an idea that maybe that is what he meant... but is there anywhere where he is specific about what he meant by that??
Or we just have to insert what we think he means... like a guessing game?

It means he is under qualified to answer that question, he is not a scientist who can determine where life begins(neither can they), and he is not into theology or the Bible enough to determine what God thinks about it. Either way he is under the pay grade of President of the free world too, as this is one of the many crisis's that someone at that pay grade has to make almost daily.
I am against abortion. If someone becomes pregnant and does not want the baby there are plenty who do and would love to adopt them. Many Americans have to go overseas to adopt a baby because we have so few here. I can't tell you how many delivery's I've worked that the baby died in utero due to a variety of reasons and those parents wanted that baby so much. I have had patients who have tried multiple times to have a baby and could not carry one to term- yet we have hundreds who abort baby's daily- it is very sad. For those who believe it is not a living thing or just a group of cells- we all started from a group of cells.
i just heard about this quote over the long weekend. what a cowards way out of answering an sticky question. he really can't have an opinion other than what the left wing demo's WANT to hear....i believe he was trying to say that only God knows that answer, and he isn't God. But it's just such a cowardly answer.
i used to be a democrat, but am no longer going to align myself with people who would put popularity in front of a little baby's life.
a baby is a human life and soul from conception and if a man with children of his own doesn't feel that way - how disheartening is that?
That is a common phrase that means, "only God knows'.
Thompson's statement is a lie. As you can see from your own sources, Obama didn't say that "the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade". He said only God knows when life begins. Obama has made clear votes on abortion. He believes it should be rare. His vote in the Illinois Leg. was for a bill that could have criminalized abortion. There was already a law in place for unborn and newly born children.
yes, i agree with Thomson and i think when Obama said it was above he pay grade, he meant he couldn't comprehend the implications of abortion on the mother or the family or familys involved. what worries me is, after we keep doing this, ( for how long) will they decide it'd be ok to kill a 3 year old because he came down with something incureable. or old people. everything starts small, you know. they're pushing the same agenda Hitler did in 1933.
The person he is referring to is God. God is above his pay grade. It's just a new way to say it.
Edit: To "yesseree", planned parenthoods are not "abotion mills". They are nowhere close to it. People can't grasp the concept of pro-choice. It doesn't mean "YAY ABORTIONS!", it means that a women is the one to decide what she must do, not John McCain or anyone else.
I think abortion should be retroactive to age 21.
Fred has something the youth of today are not familiar with; a "dry" sense of humor. In some cases, a sense of humor of any kind is beyond their comprehension. Guess they don't teach that in "Basic X-Box-101".
No I don't agree with Thompson.
"At what point does a BABY get human rights?" A BABY should get human rights when it is born. Obama should have said stated that and made a distinction between a BABY and a FETUS. You know, like the law does. Obama not only cannot get an abortion, but he also can't overturn the Roe v Wade
And, by the way, there were 40million fetus' destroyed before Roe v Wade too, I'm sure -- I'm just sure that it killed alot of women along with them.
I think that this is a private decision that only a woman can make and men have no place in this dialog. I believe that my uterus is not a republican concern and the right to privacy should be enforced. It is very easy for a man to be pro-life it takes a real man to take himself out the equation and say this doesn't affect me. Thompson is pro-life but how many children has he fostered or adopted. This pro-life argument is hypercritical because many of them are for the death penalty especially in Texas. LOL.
for the most of us that use common sense, he means God. Im suprised a pastor would not know that. Everything about Obama has to be controversal, I dont get it.
