I am a USA citizen that came to Baoding, Hebei province on May 21st of this year with a tourist visa (L) I am not residing in a hotel, for I have a friend that rents an apartment and invited me to live with her.
I was told that I had to go get registered at the police station, but I have had not the time to go there yet, I plan to do that as soon as possible, but there is something that troubles me about going to there; I know I will need my passport, and my visa, but they ask the landlord's ID and for him to go with me to the police station to stay that I am in fact allowed to live there. My problem is that it is almost impossible for me to contact the owner of the apartment, since he doesn't live in this city, and he will most likely won't go with me to the police station. Could my friend that is currently renting the apartment go with me to the police station instead of the landlord? Should I even go to the police station?

I quote the U.S. State Department travel information:
Whether you are traveling to or living in China, you must register with the police within 24 hours of your arrival in the country. Even foreigners with residence permits are required to register after each re-entry. If you are staying in a hotel, the staff will automatically register you. However, if you are staying in a private home with family or friends, you should take your passport to the local police station to register. Failure to do so could result in fines and detention.

That stuff is area of the previous. I stayed in an area community in Shanghai with my spouse's kin. there replaced into no issues in any respect. Now interior the smaller places I did have a sprint bit a issue getting hotel lodging as a foreigner, yet this too has stronger lots. China is open. no person is following you. that's an staggering and risk-free place to bypass to
Yes and do so like right now or your friends could get into big trouble.
