Did Martin Luther become so afraid of the soldiers of the Pope coming to torture and kill him that he started to worship a mighty fortress as his God? (Happy 500th anniversary of the Wars of the Reformation!)

I laughed. Good troll.
No, he didn't worship a fortress, but God was the fortress he ran to in order to find protection.
He wrote the hymn ‘A Mighty Fortress Is Our God’ between 1527 and 1529. It is known as The Battle Hymn of the Reformation and is based on Psalm 46:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea... The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
“And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us;
We will not fear, for God has willed
His truth to triumph through us.”
Thanks for the links.
P.S. My Scottish name literally means the grey tower or fortress. God's fortress protects all who come within.
I love to sing that hymn. I don't agree with Luther about everything, but that song was truly inspired by the Lord himself.
