So I ordered two T-Shirts from an American site (glamourkills.com to be specific), and I've used that site about a million times before and had no problems or extra charges. But today I got a little note from the Post Office to tell me I had to go pay a customs charge. Does anyone know why, when I've never had to do this before? It can't be a recent thing, because I had something from Glamour Kills delivered yesterday without any hassle, and it can't have anything to do with price or weight because these t-shirts were both lower?

Because if you buy something from a company based in the USA (or any foreign country) you should pay an import tax on that item.
You've got away with it before because Customs haven't picked up on it.
You should have paid on all parcels from out of the EU.
You wont have because customs dont pick on every parcel.
The govt want the VAT basically that it would have got if you bought in this country.
Sometimes it isnt any cheaper even though you think it is.
They are claiming VAT at 20% of what they think they are worth. If you think you've been overcharged the procedure for claiming a refund is at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/paying-tax.htm...
It's best not to mention to HMRC that you haven't paid tax on previous imports.
