People “suddenly realizing” they were in one after they leave it, is just their brains RATIONALIZING their decision to leave. It’s called “cognitive dissonance”.
Same thing happens when a girl gets dumped. She could get dumped by a movie star like Brad Pitt or Chris Evans. She’d be like “well, he was such an ugly jerk anyway! Hmph! I’m so much better off.”
Like that’s just what she tells herself. And maybe she even starts to believe it. But it doesn’t make it true
