I've been researching statistics on wikipedia for about 4 hours and right when I think I found the answer I need, I stumble upon some mathematical notation that I am not familiar with. I've checked several other wikipedia articles for an explanation but I can't find one. What does the semi-colon mean in this function definition? The function can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scale_parameter#Defin... It's the very first one. Any help is much appreciated.
Update:I understand all but the semi-colon (at least, I think I do).

Yeah... that Wikipedia page isn't so good, is it? Its definitions are all confused, best to ignore it and move on. The scale factor is just something that makes the distribution wider or narrower.
The semicolon is just another comma, but with the suggestion that you're not going to change the stuff on the right of it very often. You can see some examples of it on the page on the normal distribution.
